The scientific activity of Shiryaev Albert covers many areas inProbability,Mathematical Statistics,Stochastic calculus,Financial mathematics ,Stochastic optimal control;he wrote many books and textbooks.Shiryaev was a plenary speaker in the Probability on Mathematical Congress in Helsinki,he was President of the Bernoully Soc.in the Probability and Mathematical Statistics(1989-1991),President of the Bashelier Soc.on financial mathematics(1998-1999).He is very activ in the work with students:he was adviser of the 59 PhD dissertation of his students. More than 250 main scientific papers (on probability theory, mathematical and applied statistics, optimal stochastic control, financial mathematics, history of mathematics).

Personal Statement:

Professor Alexei R. Khokhlov is an internationally recognized scientist known for his outstanding contributions to various branches of polymer science. In 1976, while he still was an undergraduate student, he proposed, together with I.M.Lifshitz and A.Yu.Grosberg, the theory of coil-globule transitions in linear macromolecules. Later, A.R.Khokhlov developed this theory for the analysis of a wide variety of phenomena in polymer science: collapse of gels, of polyelectrolyte macromolecules, compactization of DNA molecules etc. In 1979-1988, together with A.N.Semenov, Professor Khokhlov performed pioneering studies in the field of liquid-crystalline polymers. As a result, the theory of liquid-crystalline ordering in the solutions of stiff-chain macromolecules with partial flexibility was first developed. In 1998 Professor Khokhlov proposed an original biomimetic approach aimed to the synthesis of macromolecules with required functional properties. Nowadays the research team in computer simulation of various polymer systems which is headed by A.R.Khokhlov is one of the most active in the world. Experimental research in his group is connected with modification of polymer surfaces after their treatment in supercritical fluids, use of associating polymers in oil industry, synthesis of catalytic nanoparticles of controlled size immobilized in polymer matrices, developments of new materials for polymer membranes for fuel cells.

Prof. A.R. Khokhlov made an outstanding contribution to education in polymer science. He organized education of students in polymer physics at the Physics Department of Moscow State University, developed several lecture courses in this field, wrote several highly popular books and textbooks for students dedicated to polymers. Prof. A.R. Khokhlov was a scientific advisor in more than 50 PhD dissertations. During the period 1997-2002, he organized educational programs in polymer science at the University of Copenhagen and at the University of Ulm. Nowadays he is the Head of the MSU Nanotechnology Research and Education Centre where he developed new fully interdisciplinary education program at the crossroad of physics, chemistry and biology. 

Prof. A.Khokhlov is also known for his intensive international activities. In 2004-2005 he was the President of European Polymer Federation, works as the member of editorial boards of several international scientific journals (Langmuir, Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, Biomacromolecules, Molecular Physics, Progress in Polymer Science, etc..), organized many international scientific conferences. He holds the positions of Adjunct Professor of State University of New York in Stony Brook and Honorary Professor of the University of Ulm. In addition to Vice-Rector Position currently Prof. Khokhlov supervises 6 diverse research projects with total annual budget larger than 2 mln. USD per year. As a head of the Chair of Polymer and Crystal Physics, MSU Physics Department, Alexei Khokhlov manages research group of 60 people including Ph.D. and graduate students. He has more than 600 scientific papers, 7 books and 25 article reviews, more than 11000 citations, H-index 52.

Personal Statement:

For the last 5 years I’ve been working on high-energy lithium batteries. My research involves utilization of soft chemistry approaches for synthesis of nanostructured cathode and anode materials, investigation of its structure and micromorphology, and development of spectroscopic in situ techniques for analysis of electrode process pathways and degradation mechanisms in lithium-metal-polymer and lithium-air batteries. Most recent work was focused on operando ambient pressure XPS studies that could be applied for investigation of metal-air battery and fuel cell electrodes.

Personal Statement:

My main field of research activity is synthesis of new inorganic materials with important physical properties. In the 1990th years we discovered different new superconducting materials, and among them the Hg-based superconducting mixed cuprates family, which still holds the record for the superconducting transition temperature. The insights on inorganic materials design developed by us and strengthened by modern synthetic approaches are now intensively used to streamline the research in the following fields today: a) new electrode materials for electrochemical production of aluminum which is supported by the Joint Company RUSAL; b) new electrode materials for Li-ion batteries with enhanced energy and power densities; c) new cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) based on transition metal anion-deficient perovskites.

Personal Statement:

My research is focused today on the new materials, their processing and characterization techniques for lithium-metal-polymer and lithium-air power sources using a wide variety of soft chemistry and solid state preparation methods. Electrode materials under the study are related to vanadia nanobelts, nanotubes and their composites with chemically modified graphene or carbon nanotubes, molecular bronzes and hybrid organic – inorganic derivatives, manganese and tin oxide or titania 1D structures, macrocyclic complexes of transition metals, LiFePO4 system. Additionally, glassy and several kinds of nanostructured composites as advanced ionic conductors are to be developed for membranes and protected lithium anodes.

Personal Statement:

Marat O. Gallyamov received his Ph.D. degree in Physics of Condensed Matter in 1999 at the Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia) in the field of Scanning Probe Microscopy (supervised by Igor V. Yaminsky). In 2002–2004 he stayed as Research Fellow with Prof. Martin Möller at Organische Chemie III—Makromolekulare Chemie (Universität Ulm, Germany), where he performed SFM research on different synthetic macromolecular objects, including study of vapour-induced conformational transitions. Afterwards he headed several research projects on various polymer applications at the Faculty of Physics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, including the project dedicated to the development of new membrane-electrode assemblies for high temperature fuel cells based on polybenzimidazoles doped with phosphoric acid. Since that time he became actively involved in fuel cells research.  In 2009 he received D.Sc. degree (Russian degree similar to German habilitation) in Polymer Physics at the Lomonosov Moscow State University in the field of Scanning Force Microscopy of Polymer Structures. Since 2010 he is leading the "Laboratory of Polymers at Surfaces and New Polymer Materials for Fuel Cells" at the Department of Polymer and Crystal Physics (Lomonosov Moscow State University). His current research interest is focused on the research in high temperature polymer-based fuel cells and in the usage of supercritical carbon dioxide for deposition of nanostructures on different substrates and matrices for advanced applications.

Personal Statement:

The main field of research activity of Professor Sergeyev is the synthesis of proton/ion/electron conducting polymer composites by oxidative template polymerization in the solution, in the presence of soft-template (surfactants, polyanions) or hard template (MWCNT, polymer films). Using these approach different kinds of energy related composite materials were developed at Polymer Division of Moscow State University.
